Nina Dobrev Wants To Become Jennifer Lawrence's Superhero

She wants to make a Mystique.

With Reporting by Josh Horowitz

While she's perfectly happy dealing with the world of the blood-craving supernatural on "The Vampire Diaries," Nina Dobrev has her heart set on something else: a superhero to call her own.

Speaking with MTV News at San Diego Comic-Con, Dobrev revealed her fandom for the comic book movie genre, and her interest in getting a superhero movie of her own one day. In fact, she already has two characters in mind.

"I can't wait to be a Catwoman or a Mystique or something, some day," she said.

Of course, one of those roles is taken; Jennifer Lawrence is still kicking butt and shifting shape in Fox's "X-Men" franchise, so Dobrev isn't likely to step into those shoes anytime soon. Catwoman, however, is another story; with the "Dark Knight" trilogy complete, Anne Hathaway's days as Selina Kyle are over, leaving the role wide open to Dobrev or any other number of actresses.

Regardless of the role, Dobrev just wants in, and with good reason.

"I feel like superhero movies used to be a bit more action-y. There wasn't much depth to them," she said. "[Studios are] figuring out that people want to see smart movies with smart characters that have a soul. They're taking steps in the right direction. It's making me enjoy the movies more."

Sadly, it doesn't sound like Dobrev will costume up anytime soon, thanks to her "Vampire Diaries" commitment.

"Those huge movies take six to eight months to shoot, and that's how long it takes to shoot a season of 'The Vampire Diaries,'" she said. "There's no way I could do that until I finished the show."

"But I'm a big fan of the genre, which is why I want to do it," she added. "I would love, love to do something like that."
