Hara scored a place of honor on "National Geographic Your Shot," an online photo-sharing platform, for the above fiery snap, featuring the man himself gazing into Kilauea Volcano’s Halemaumau Crater in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park.

"I was able to legally access the edge of Halemaumau crater while volunteering for the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park," Hara said on the site. “I carefully set the timer for two minutes and walked around to the farther, visually stable edge of the crater to create this self-portrait.”

Suddenly all those self-snaps you took with your besties at the froyo shop are looking pretty lame, huh? Try not to cry yourself to sleep tonight.
