Kate Mara, Future 'Fantastic Four' Star, Has Never Read A Comic Book

True story!

Next year, Fox unleashes a new take on Marvel's First Family in the form of Josh Trank's "Fantastic Four" reboot, starring Miles Teller as Reed "Mr. Fantastic" Richards, Jamie Bell as Ben "The Thing" Grimm, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny "Human Torch" Storm, and Kate Mara as Sue "Invisible Woman" Storm.

Exactly how the new "Fantastic Four" will differ from the previous two films remains unknown, but to hear Mara tell it, past comic book experience is absolutely not required to enjoy the new movie — in fact, it's not even required to make the movie.

"I've never been a fan of comics," Mara told Esquire Mexico in a new interview. "I've actually never read one. I was going to for this movie but the director said it wasn't necessary."

In fact, according to Mara, Trank advised his cast not to read any "Fantastic Four" comics, because the upcoming movie "won't be based on any history of anything already published." That flies in the face of rumors that the new film will take its cues from the "Ultimate Fantastic Four" line, which reimagined Reed Richards and the gang as young government employees.

For what it's worth, Mara described herself as "a fan of comic book movies," adding that she's well aware of the expectations that fans have toward the franchise.

"I understand that there are many fans of Fantastic Four and I guess they expect a lot from me, but I prefer not to be pressured by that," she said. "We are also trying to create a new way of seeing these superheroes, I'm focusing on making her as real as possible."
