Hold Onto Your Beards: Bon Iver Has A New Song

And it will make you want to sleep on the forest floor with all the creatures.

Oh, Bon Iver, we've missed your dulcet drones! Justin Vernon is out Monday (June 30) with "Heavenly Father," a contribution to the soundtrack for Zach Braff’s new film, "Wish I Was Here."

The first track under that moniker in a while, "Heavenly Father" is classic eerie, dark Bon Iver, with Vernon's rich voice blending with a buzzing, choral kind of electronic loop, cresting just on the edge of falsetto. "I don't know how you house the sin/ But you're free now/ I was never sure how much of you I could let in/ And we're free now," Vernon sings, transporting us, somehow, to some kind of cathedral of sound on a leafy planet populated only by soulful lumberjacks wandering through the forest on dappled deer. Or that least that's what it sounds like to me.

The "Wish I Was Here" soundtrack also features songs by the Shins, Cat Power and Coldplay, and it's out digitally and on CD July 15 and on vinyl August 5. The film opens on July 18.
