Report: Matt Damon Is Back For More 'Bourne'

Has Jason Bourne been born again?

Is Matt Damon about to return to the role he was Bourne to play?

That's the word according to a new rumor floating around the web this morning. According to Latino Review, Damon will reprise his role as memory-deficient super-spy Jason Bourne in the franchise's upcoming fifth installment, due in theaters in 2016. It would be his first time playing the amnesiac agent since 2007's "The Bourne Ultimatum," and he would presumably grace the screen alongside Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross, the hero of 2012's "The Bourne Legacy."

The rumor is far from confirmed, but it helps explain why the untitled fifth "Bourne" movie was just delayed by almost a full year. And yet, it's curious if true, as Damon has been very vocal about never returning to "Bourne" without Paul Greengrass as director. Justin Lin of the "Fast and Furious" franchise is set to direct the new "Bourne."

Clearly, if the rumor is true, something changed Damon's mind. Perhaps it's a script that lives up to his standards, perhaps Greengrass is involved in some way, or perhaps it's simply not true at all; we'll have to wait and see how the news shakes out in the days and weeks ahead.

The fifth "Bourne" arrives on July 15, 2016.
