After spending the last two decades paving the way for electronic music, Tiesto makes a significant shift away from his signature trance sound with his sixth studio album, A Town Called Paradise. It's the closest thing to pop music he's ever created, and it's not just a coincidence.

MTV News caught up with Tiesto at his album release party in New York City, where he explained, "This is the first time I've actually made an album where I am writing songs, before I was writing DJ tracks-- so 10-minute tracks, and they weren't vocal-driven."

So far, it's working for him. The two singles he has released from the album ("Red Lights" and "Wasted") are already climbing to the top of the charts, and they show no signs of slowing down.

"Wasted," featuring Matthew Koma, is already being called the song of the summer, but originally it wasn't quite what Tiesto expected.

"I wanted to make an indie rock/EDM song, and the song became 'Wasted,'" he added. "It's different from anything I've done before, I was really surprised about how it came out."

Tiesto has four tracks in total with Koma on the album, as well as tracks with Icona Pop, Hardwell and Krewella.
