Disney discovered a new formula for success with the release of its recent blockbuster, “Maleficent,” which grossed north of $170 million worldwide in its opening weekend, so they’ve already greenlit their next live-action fairytale adaptation.

Variety reports that Bill Condon (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 & 2”) has officially been tapped to direct the live-action reboot of “Beauty and the Beast.”

While plot details are currently unknown, Evan Spiliotopoulos is penning the script for the Mandeville Films production.

Back in 1991, audiences propelled the animated version of “Beauty and the Beast” to the top of the box office with a $375 million worldwide gross. The film was the first animated features to nab a Best Picture Oscar nomination and went on to become a Broadway play.

Condon, who won an Oscar for Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published for 1998’s “Gods and Monsters, is best known for for helming the hit musical film, “Dreamgirls.”

Based on his track record, he’ll definitely be expected to bring his music-based experience to his new Disney project.
