Peter Parker isn't just a superhero. He's not just a brilliant scientist. He's not just a fantastic photographer. He's also a hopeless romantic -- or, looked at from another point of view, he's a creepy stalker.

In "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," Peter and his longtime girlfriend, Gwen Stacy, put their relationship aside to focus on their own divergent paths. But during the breakup, Peter doesn't exactly let Gwen go. He continues to swing from skyscraper to skyscraper, watching Gwen from afar, in between chasing down criminals and rescuing cats from trees.

So, is Peter just being protective? Or is there something considerably stalker-y about the whole situation?

"Of course, from my perspective, it's not stalker-y," Garfield told MTV. "From my perspective, it's purely romantic. I'm in love with Gwen, and not only that, I want to make sure she's okay."

But what about the fact that he dresses up in spandex, is a vigilante, and defaces public property? Dane DeHaan, who plays Parker's best friend Harry Osborn in the film, was quick to rush to his old pal's aid. "Well, he doesn't really deface public property…"

Oh yeah? What about Peter's grand gesture of "love" on the Brooklyn Bridge?

"Oh. Right," DeHaan laughed. "But that's just a spider-web! You can get that out with a broom."

Or what about the fact that Peter has an obsessively put-together wall of photos and newspaper clippings, including more than a few pictures of Gwen? Surely that's a little creepy, no?

"The photos of Gwen have been up on the wall since they were together," Garfield defended. "And I don't think Peter ever wanted to let go of that idea. And I just started to become an obsessive-compulsive."

Even Jamie Foxx, who plays Spider-Man nemesis Electro, thinks Peter is more romantic than stalker.

"I think he's torn," he said. "'Do I save the world, or do I love my girl?' She's like, 'What are you going to do? You're just going to keep saving the world while I'm over here?'"

But Foxx admitted that there's room for interpretation.

"I mean, it depends on where your mind is," he laughed. "I never really got that deep."
