Chvrches' Lorde Cover Fills Them With 'Blind Fear'

But the Scottish band covers 'Team' flawlessly all the same.

Chvrches have covered the likes of Prince and Bauhaus in the past, but during their stint on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge, the Scottish band decided to follow in the footsteps of the Boss, busting out their take on a jam by Lorde.

"We were recently on tour in Australia, like a festival tour, and this artist was one of the artists on the bill," the band's Martin Doherty said, explaining why the trio chose Lorde's "Team" to cover on the show. "That's when it really got stuck in my head. I thinks she really won me over then and the live show was incredible."

"It's a lot of fun because we kind of get to put our own stamp on it and reinterpret it in a fun way," Iain Cook continued. "It always kind of feels like playing. Like you're taking somebody else's stuff and taking it apart and putting it together again."

The band then launched into their rendition of Lorde's ode to not putting one's hands up in the air, a rather straight-forward cover that saw singer Lauren Mayberry warbling like Miss Yelich-O'Conner herself and stating that the experience filled her with "blind fear."

Chvrches isn't the first band -- by a longshot -- to cover the Pure Heroine singer. Mostly recently, Bruce Springsteen took on "Royals," a performance that Lorde said made her cry.
