'Game of Thrones' Season 4 Premiere Date Revealed: Bring On The Dragons

Khaleesi and her crew will return to HBO in April.

Forget the polar vortex, winter isn't coming until April.

OK, so the House Stark may be dwindling (Hey Arya and Sansa!), but HBO has officially set the highly anticipated "Game of Thrones" season four premiere for April 9. Huzzah!

That's right, in just three months (one of which is the shortest of the year) Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister and Joffrey Baratheon will return to our televisions to regale us with dragons and drama and death. And never has that combination seemed so enticing.

For those fans who are up to speed on George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Fire and Ice" novels, on which the TV series is based, season four is expected to follow along the second half of "A Storm of Swords." Also, no spoilers please for the fans who remain ignorant of all the horrors to come.

We at MTV News are clearly not the only ones overjoyed with this news. As we reported earlier this week, the English town of Kings Langley has been renamed King's Landing in honor of the season-three DVD release, researchers in Brazil have named a newly discovered species of sea slug in honor of our beloved Khaleesi and maternity wards are quickly filling up with Aryas, Sansas and, believe it or not, Theons.

According to a cryptic report from Entertainment Weekly, we could be seeing our first glimpses of "Game of Thrones'" seaon four very soon, with the first full-length trailer set to debut right before the "True Detective" premiere on Sunday (January 12).
