If you know Tyler, the Creator, then you know the Odd Future MC and producer is just as passionate about his videos as he is about his music. Whether it's his roach-eating "Yonkers" clip or his playhouse-inspired "IFHY," Tyler puts the most into the visuals he creates under his Wolf Haley alias.
There's so much to break down in Tyler's latest vid for "Tamale." But MTV News tried — and we came up with this silly series of GIFs.
The video, which dropped early Tuesday (October 8) morning, opens with digital cutouts of Tyler's mug as he spits dirty rhymes and makes faces. "Tamale" not only showcases his creativity, but it also serves as a statement to how he sees the world through a critical lens.
While he lyrically calls director Spike Lee the dreaded N-word, Tyler drops a digitally distorted scene that is supposed to be so offensive that he elects not to show it. It's a clear aftershock from his fallout with activist Dr. Boyce Watkins following what became a [article id="1706665"]controversial Mountain Dew ad that Tyler directed[/article].
"DUE TO THE GRAPHIC NATURE OF THIS FILM I WAS FORCED TO BLUR BECAUSE PEOPLE AREN'T READY TO HAVE INTELLIGENT CONVERSATIONS BEFORE THEY JUDGE. WELCOME TO AMERICA," he wrote in a message that flashed across the screen.
It's unclear what is happening in the blurred scene, but we are to assume it's something heinous. To juxtapose in the very next scene, however, the rabble-rouser trampolines on the backside of a bikini-clad video model. "BUT THIS SH-- IS ALLOWED," he messages onscreen.
The clip isn't all message-filled, as Tyler brings his fictional Camp Flog Gnaw to life or shrinks himself to ride a giant house cat.
There's a hilarious golf scene (because rappers playing golf has been a thing ever since Ma$e and Diddy took to the greens in the Notorious B.I.G.'s "Mo' Money Mo' Problems" video back in 1997). Still, the most GIF-worthy scene in "Tamale" has to be Tyler's simulated orgasm while reading a book titled "Homophobic Beans Misogyny Bad 666 Gimmick."
