All hail Julianne Moore! The Academy Award-nominated actress is set to play President Alma Coin in the last two flicks in the “Hunger Games” franchise, “Mockingjay – Parts 1 & 2.”
Lionsgate confirmed the casting on Friday (September 13); however Moore has been attached to the role since back in June.

“Mockingjay,” the final book in the three-part dystopian series by Suzanne Collins, is being split up into two movies. The last acts of the franchise follow the enduring Quarter Quell tributes, who are now entering a rebellion that will decide the fate of their oppressed country. Coin has a pivotal role in the last part of the franchise as she is the president of District 13, where much of the action in Panem takes place as the series closes out.
Moore’s casting comes hot on the heels of several other new castings, including “Game of Thrones” star Natalie Dormer, former “90210” star Evan Ross and Hollywood newcomer Stef Dawson . “Catching Fire” director Francis Lawrence will be back to close out the franchise in the director’s chair. And the series’ leading stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth will be back for more action as well.
While the second “Hunger Games” film has yet to hit theaters (“Catching Fire” is slated to be released on November 22), both “Mockingjay” movies already have release dates. “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1,” is scheduled for a November 21, 2014, release with “Mockingjay – Part 2” opening in theaters November 20, 2015.
