Macklemore & Ryan Lewis cleaned up at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, winning Best Hip-Hop Video for "Can't Hold Us" and Best Video With a Social Message for "Same Love." And from the looks of their new cameo-heavy video, "White Walls," the Seattle duo aim to keep snagging Moonmen at future VMAs.
The clip, directed by the guys themselves, begins with Macklemore dressed in traditional Mariachi charro garb somewhere in the rural state of Washington. Then, incongruously, the video flashes to tricked-out classic Cadillacs in urban areas with, of course, some white walls. There are numerous unannounced cameos in the video, including Wiz Khalifa, Big Boi, A$AP Rocky, DJ Drama and Trinidad James, who takes on the role of a used-car salesman.
As wild and off-kilter as the visuals may seem, guest TDE rapper Schoolboy Q takes it completely off the rails as he revels among senior citizens wearing kiddie inflatables in a pool. Even more odd, still, are the impromptu make-out sessions with some of the older ladies.
The Heist duo then pays homage to their hometown by highlighting Seattle's iconic Dick's Drive-In on Broadway with a makeshift concert on top of the building, with hundreds of fans rocking with them. Near the end of the video, before Mack displays his archery skills, the Emerald City's own OG of rap, Sir Mix-A-Lot, makes an appearance as a tow-truck driver.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are currently taking their brand of energetic hip-hop to the masses on tour in Europe.
