Cory Monteith Tribute Planned For Emmys

September ceremony will contain 'something that reflects an homage,' according to the show's producer.

Cory Monteith's peers will get a chance to pay tribute to the late "Glee" star when they gather in September for the Emmy Awards. In an interview with Deadline Hollywood, the show's executive producer, Ken Ehrlich, said plans are taking shape for a segment that will honor Monteith, 31, who was [article id="1710507"]found dead[/article]
on July 13 of what a coroner determined was [article id="1710670"]mixed drug toxicity involving heroin and alcohol[/article]
.

Ehrlich told Deadline that current plans calls for "something that reflects an homage." And, because things are in their initial stages, "what the extent of that is, or how we're going to approach it ... well, it's too early to tell."

He also said there has been considerable pressure to devote time to a stand-alone segment on Monteith, which is a difficult task for the producer of a three-hour show that has to juggle handing out awards with planned bits and acceptance speeches.

"If Cory had passed in March, we've have had four months to look at this with a little more perspective," Ehrlich said. "The reason we're getting all of this discussion now is because he passed away two weeks ago. But we are going to deal with it." One of the ideas under consideration is a musical homage that would be separate from the traditional "In Memoriam" segment.

Monteith's fellow "Glee" stars gathered on the 20th Century Fox lot last week for a [article id="1711304"]private memorial service[/article]
and a number of those former castmates have issued statements about their [article id="1711070"]love and appreciation of him[/article]
 over the past two weeks.

The premiere of the fifth season of the show has been pushed back to September 26 and co-creator Murphy said he plans to honor Monteith in the [article id="1710956"]show's third episode[/article]
