"Man of Steel" arrives in theaters on Friday, but before it does, MTV News is giving fans an early look. On Thursday (June 13), director Zack Snyder and stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Michael Shannon sat down with MTV News' Josh Horowitz to premiere an exclusive clip from the film, followed by a 30-minute interview on MTV.com.
In the clip, Superman faces another Kryptonian for the first time on the field of battle: Faora (Antje Traue), who pegs the orphaned alien at first sight. "You are weak, son of El, and unsure of yourself," she says to him, prompting him to attack. She easily rebuffs his advances, throwing him literally across town and leaving a path of destruction in his wake. "The fact that you possess a sense of morality and we do not gives us an evolutionary advantage. And if history has proven anything, it is that evolution always wins."
"Man of Steel" seeks to reimagine Superman's origins, turning the character's classic heroic transformation into a morally complicated journey of self-discovery. As Clark Kent, Cavill struggles to find his place on Earth until the last survivors of Krypton, including General Zod (Shannon), arrive on the planet demanding its leaders turn him over to them. In the meantime, reporter Lois Lane (Adams) struggles to know how to cover the story without becoming involved herself.

"From the beginning, I thought it would be cool to see Superman actually do some super stuff," he revealed. "Some fighting, some flying. Yes, he's this amazing, iconic character, and in the past we've seen him do a lot of cool stuff, but the kind of movie I wanted to make was one where we take full advantage of the amazing action you get from Superman."
"Man of Steel" opens in theaters nationwide on Friday.
