'Good Day To Die Hard' Trailer Signals Return Of The Cowboy

A new look at the fifth film in the series reminds us of the original in more ways than one.

If you were introduced to John McClane in his 1988 debut in the first "Die Hard," there were probably a few things about 2007's "Live Free or Die Hard" that didn't sit right. McClane is supposed to stumble across a terrorist plot and begrudgingly take them down with badass aplomb. He does not ride a crashing Harrier jet or hang out with Justin Long.

That being the case, it should come as welcome news that the new trailer for McClane's fifth adventure, "A Good Day to Die Hard" starts with him in familiar situation, riding in the back of a cab -- a Russian one this time -- unaware of the chaos about to unfold. The preview, which just premiered over on Apple, hints at a possible return to form for the action franchise, but we'll reserve our judgment until we know whether there's a Reginald VelJohnson cameo or not.

From the quiet beginnings, we're thrown head-first into an explosive plot revolving around McClane's son Jack, played by "Spartacus" star Jai Courtney, who also happens to be a "highly trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist," according to the official synopsis. Luckily for him, dear ol' dad knows a thing or two about stopping terrorists.

By the end of it all, father and son are jumping out of a building together in slow-motion as a fiery helicopter crashes alongside them, so it's not all 1988-style, but we'll take it for now.

"A Good Day to Die Hard" opens in theaters on February 14.

What did you think of the trailer? Is this the return of the real John McClane? Let us know in the comments below.
