'Amazing Spider-Man 2' Casts Dane DeHaan As Harry Osborn

'Chronicle' star joins Jamie Foxx in the superhero sequel.

As "Amazing Spider-Man" director Marc Webb appropriately tweeted, world, "Meet Harry Osborn. @daneDeHaan."

Dane DeHaan , the "Chronicle" breakout star and current "it" boy, has officially landed the role of Peter Parker's best friend, Harry Osborn, in the next installment of what Sony Pictures is calling the "Amazing Spider-Man" trilogy. The casting process for Harry became public when a short list of actors, including Sam Claflin from "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and Eddie Redmayne from "Les Misérables," hit the Web.

This is the second high-profile bit of casting coming five months to the day after Webb's first "Spider-Man" film hit theaters with real-life couple Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in the leads. A little over a month ago, [article id="1696586"]Jamie Foxx officially signed on[/article] to play the villain in the sequel, Electro, a role that was teased during a post-credit sequence after the first movie.

DeHaan experienced a breakout year in 2012 thanks to his emotional turn as Andrew, a boy mad with power, in "Chronicle"; a role in the star-studded crime ensemble "Lawless"; and a brief cameo in the awards favorite "Lincoln."

Next year could prove equally important for the 25-year-old actor. In March, he'll appear alongside Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper, respectively, in the generational crime saga "The Place Beyond the Pines" and "Devil's Knot," a dramatic re-telling of the story of the West Memphis Three.

With Harry now cast, the attention of fanboys will likely shift to see who will take on the mantle of Norman Osborn, the man who would become Green Goblin, played in the original trilogy by Willem Dafoe.

The sequel to "The Amazing Spider-Man" is expected to hit theaters on May 2, 2014.
