A spokesperson for Green Day confirmed exclusively to MTV News on Tuesday (September 4) night that the VMA veterans will be in Los Angeles for their rehearsal on Wednesday and that they are ready to plug in for the big show after a recent health scare for singer Billie Joe Armstrong.
Armstrong's health issue forced GD to cancel their show in Bologna, Italy, on Sunday after the singer was rushed to a hospital for undisclosed reasons.
"We sincerely apologize to our fans, but unfortunately due to illness Billie Joe has been hospitalized, and we regretfully must cancel our performance in Bologna, Italy this evening," bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool said in a video statement posted on their site on Monday. "We are beyond devastated and will make it up to you when we come back next summer."
According to their site, after the VMAs, the band's next scheduled tour date is on September 21 at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Whatever laid Billie low, though, it wasn't enough to stop the legendary punk trio from making it to Los Angeles on Thursday for their fourth VMA performance , where they will debut a song off the first disc in their upcoming album trilogy, ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tre!. ¡Uno! is slated for release on September 25.
The first-ever VMAs at Staples Center will feature previously announced performances from One Direction, Taylor Swift, Pink and Frank Ocean, as well as newly announced collabos (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1693152/2012-vma-performers-lil-wayne-asap-rocky-nicki-minaj-2-chainz.jhtml) featuring Rihanna with A$AP Rocky and another with the night's house DJ, Calvin Harris.
If that's not enough star power for you, Nicki Minaj will also grace the stage with a secret guest and 2 Chainz will make his VMA debut. And, picking up from his massive closing performance at the 2011 Video Music Awards, VMA nominee Lil Wayne will drop by for the proceedings to make the worldwide debut of his new single "No Worries," from his new mixtape, Dedication 4.
