Cee Lo Green Puts Some Extra Soul In 'The Soul Man'

MTV News visited the set when Green filmed his cameo alongside Cedric the Entertainer and Niecy Nash.

Cee Lo Green is becoming quite the Renaissance man these days. In addition to his well-received work as a judge on "The Voice," plans to release the Goodie Mob comeback LP Age Against the Machine and an upcoming residency in Las Vegas, the jack-of-all-trades recently found time to film a guest spot on TV Land's new sitcom "The Soul Man."

The show stars veteran comedian Cedric the Entertainer as a former R&B star-turned-reverend along with Niecy Nash ("Reno 911"), who plays his wife, Lolli. The show premiered earlier this summer and is a spin-off of another TV Land hit "Hot in Cleveland."

MTV News was lucky enough to visit the set recently to get a glimpse of Green's work as a rival preacher to Cedric's Reverend Boyce.

"We've had some amazing guest stars," Nash said. "Right now, we're working with the one and only Cee Lo Green, thank you very much."

"I really owe a debt of gratitude to these very professional people for making it a lot easier for me, for making me comfortable and encouraging me to do my best," Green said of his positive experience with the cast and crew. "I'm just very appreciative of the opportunity, because this is something I would like to learn and, at some point in the very near future, make my own strides in."

According to Entertainment Weekly, Green is among a star-studded list of guest stars expected to appear this season, also including Anthony Anderson, Tamar Braxton, Trina Braxton, Kim Coles, Robert Forster and Sherri Shepherd.

In addition to Green's upcoming work in television on "The Voice" and "The Soul Man," look for the Grammy winner's appearance on the big screen in the Motown-era musical drama "Sparkle," which stars Jordin Sparks, Mike Epps, Derek Luke and the late Whitney Houston.

"The Soul Man" airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on TV Land.
