Nipsey Hussle ‘Disgusted’ By Arizona Shooting

MC says after 13 people were shot outside nightclub where he was set to perform.

Nipsey Hussle says he is disgusted by the violence that took place in Tempe, Arizona, late Friday night at a venue where the California rapper was scheduled to perform. At least 13 people were shot outside of the Clubhouse nightclub in Tempe before Nipsey was supposed to hit the stage, target="_blank">CNN reported. Two of the victims are in serious condition.

“My deepest thoughts and sympathies go out to the victims and their families who were affected by the tragic event that took place last night in Arizona, and I pray for the speedy recovery for anyone involved,” Nipsey target="_blank">wrote on his Tumblr on Saturday.

Hussle clarified that he was not present at the time of the shooting, maintaining that he was in his hotel room when the gunfire erupted outside of the club. “I grew up on the streets of south central Los Angeles and have witnessed many tragedies in my lifetime. I never glorify any situation like this and think it is disgusting,” Hussle wrote in a statement on his blog. “Any fan of my music knows that I strongly oppose gun violence, and that I represent nothing but peace and progress through hard work.”

Nipsey has emerged as one of rap’s more exciting newcomers. In 2008 he dropped the first of three mixtapes in his Bullets Ain’t Got No Name trilogy, and last year he dropped The Marathon Continues as a free online mixtape. His long-awaited debut LP, South Central State of Mind, has yet to be released. In 2010 Hussle appeared on the 25th-anniversary remake of “We Are the World” alongside Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne and Kanye West. Proceeds from the sales of that track went to benefit Haiti’s earthquake victims.

The “Hussle in the House” MC hopes the shooting doesn’t become another black eye for rap. “Many people will wrongfully attribute this incident to the hip-hop culture, which is purely and simply false,” he wrote.

“The alleged shooters were not ticket holders for my performance.
Regardless, this incident is a tragic reminder of the circumstances that face our community every day, and my heart and prayers go out to the victims of this, and all the other senseless acts of violence occurring every day in our communities.”

Police say that approximately 250 people were outside of the club when three men began arguing and then opened fire. It is being reported that one of the suspects has been apprehended, but authorities are still searching for the other two.
