Childish Gambino To Perform At 2012 Woodies Festival

Breaking Woodie award nominee joins the likes of Fun. and A$AP Rocky at the first-ever fest, set for March 15 at SXSW.

Donald Glover is moving up. One year ago, the actor/rapper served as host of the mtvU Woodie Awards and now, he'll be taking the stage as a Performer. His alter ego, Childish Gambino, has just been added to the list of acts confirmed for the first-ever Woodies Festival.

Gambino joins the likes of Fun., A$AP Rocky, Kimbra and Chiddy Bang as headliners at the fest, which is set for March 15 at Red River and East First Street in Austin, Texas, during South by Southwest.

The Woodies Festival is open to both SXSW badge-holders and non-credentialed music fans alike, and gets under way at 2 p.m./1 p.m. ET/CT. If you can't make it down to Austin, don't fret: The entire fest will stream live on and leads up to the 2012 Woodie Awards, which take over SXSW at 9 p.m./8 p.m. ET/CT. A 30-minute "2012 mtvU Woodie Awards Special" will air Sunday, March 18, on MTV and mtvU.

More performers for both the Woodies Fest and the awards themselves will be revealed in the coming days. Last week, Santigold was confirmed as the first act taking the stage during the awards.

The Woodie Awards are shaping up to be big for Gambino. In addition to performing at the fest, he's up for the Breaking Woodie award, given to the best up-and-coming act. Voting for that category (and all others) is now open through the Woodies' website, or on mobile phones at, and continues until March 9. Voting for the "Breaking" award will remain open during the live show on March 15.

The Woodies invade SXSW on March 15 with the Woodies Festival. The best of the 2012 mtvU Woodies will air on MTV and mtvU on March 18 at 8 p.m. ET.
