Katy Perry To Guest Star On 'How I Met Your Mother'

'Firework' singer will play Zoey's cousin, reports 'USA Today'.

OK, so the whole [article id="1648495"]"Sesame Street"[/article] thing didn't really work out, but that doesn't mean that Katy Perry has given up on her TV dreams. Just the opposite, in fact. After proving her comedic chops on "Saturday Night Live" and "The Simpsons" last year, the singer is poised to make her sitcom debut on "How I Met Your Mother" later this season, according to a report in USA Today.

According to the paper, the show will work the pop star into the "Mother" mix as the cousin of architecture-loving support character Zoey (Jennifer Morrison). Perry's character reportedly will be a beautiful and naïve woman whom the gang decide to call "Honey." The "Firework" singer's appearance might help to alleviate some of the angst suffered by fans of the Emmy-nominated sitcom after this week's shocking episode in which Lily (Alyson Hannigan) broke the news to hubby Marshall (Jason Segel) that his father had died of a heart attack.

"How I Met Your Mother" is no stranger to pop-ins from celebrities, having featured cameos by guest stars such as Nicole Scherzinger, Britney Spears, Rachel Bilson, Laura Bell Bundy and Carrie Underwood.

"Mother" has done an admirable job of working its star cameos into its unique comedic flow, employing Pussycat Doll Scherzinger as the buxom Jessica Glitter, who used to perform unintentionally erotic songs on a Canadian kids show with Robin Sparkles (Cobie Smulders).

And Spears, who was then fresh from a stay in UCLA's psychiatric ward, made a well-received comeback on the show portraying a ditzy dermatologist receptionist Abby. The role earned her a People's Choice Award nomination in 2009 for Favorite Scene Stealing Guest Star.
