Chiddy Bang Bring The Rock/Rap On New EP

The Philly duo tell MTV News they're crafting a 'signature sound' with 'Chiddy Bang: The Preview,' which features Pharrell, Q-Tip.

The past few years have been quite a whirlwind for Chiddy Bang. Chidera "Chiddy" Anamege and Noah "Xaphoon Jones" Beresin met at Drexel University as freshmen, experimenting with different sounds until they eventually established their unique style. While their name may sound cartoon-ish, the duo have amassed quite a following and been invited to esteemed festivals like Lollapalooza and Glastonbury. Chiddy flowing over Xaphoon's indie-rock samples and rock and hip-hop mash-ups have slowly, but surely started catching people's attention.

"It's kind of become my signature sound ... taking, like, the opening hits and stuttering them out," Jones explained. "It was funny when they played ['Opposite of Adults'] on the radio in the U.K. for the first time: People were like, 'This is really good, but for the first bit I thought you were trying to play 'Kids' and the radio broke.' [The song samples MGMT's psychedelic hit.] So, like, it's been awesome to see people slowly get into it and be like, 'Wow.' "

The release of their newest EP, Chiddy Bang: The Preview, on Tuesday (October 12) shows that the vibrant duo is making their mark in hip-hop, with some notables in the game taking notice. The eight-track EP features appearances by Q-Tip and Pharrell Williams. The N.E.R.D. frontman produced the first track off The Preview, titled "The Good Life," and Chiddy settle comfortably into P's space-age sound, which has undoubtedly influenced their own.

The Preview acts as, you guessed it, a preview to the duo's debut album, The Swelly Life, which is set to drop in early 2011.
