While the Tony Awards are intended to celebrate the biggest stars of the Broadway stage, several of this year's trophies wound up in the hands of movie stars.

Hosted by "Promises, Promises" star Sean Hayes and held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, the Tonys honored the new production "Red," which won Best Play, and "Memphis," which beat out [article id="1638382"]"American Idiot" and "Fela!" for Best Musical[/article]. Bill T. Jones did win Best Choreography for "Fela!" (which counts [article id="1626972"]Jay-Z and Will Smith among its producers[/article]). "American Idiot," meanwhile, won awards for its scenic design and lighting design.

But Hollywood was a dominant presence all night. Denzel Washington won Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play for his work in "Fences." His co-star, Oscar nominee Viola Davis, took home Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play. And Oscar-winner Catherine Zeta-Jones won for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her role in "A Little Night Music."

Scarlett Johansson just made her stage debut in Arthur Miller's "A View From the Bridge," but her work alongside Liev Schreiber proved to be on par with the veterans, earning her Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play. In her speech, she thanked her husband, Ryan Reynolds, whom she referred to as "the Canadian I live with."

"Being welcomed into this community has been a dream come true for me. Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to be on Broadway, and here I am," she said, adding to Reynolds, "Thank you for being a theater widower for me."
