Fabolous Surveys New Models At New York Auto Show

'Maybe they'll give me a discount,' the MC jokes.

If you're waiting for a sign that the economy is improving, look no further than the iconic New York International Auto Show. Held in New York City's Javits Center from April 2 through April 11, the annual convention brings marquee brands like Lamborghini, Bentley and Rolls-Royce under the same roof as more affordable offerings from General Motors, Ford, Nissan and the recently hard-hit Toyota.

With hundreds of vehicles spread across two floors, it's easy to get overwhelmed. And that's why MTV News opted to bring along some celebrity muscle to help us navigate the madness -- namely, New York's own Fabolous. With an eye toward the luxurious, the Brooklyn-bred MC walked the floor with MTV News correspondent Tim Kash to find the biggest and baddest rides at the show.

Mercedes SLS AMG

Price: $183,000

0-60 mph: 3.8 seconds

Top Speed: 190 mph

Prize Awarded: "Best-Looking Car"

One look at the lustrous silver exterior of the Mercedes SLS is all it takes to figure out why we named it the best-looking car at the show. And the gull-wing model found its way into Fab's heart as well. "Completely, ridiculously sexy," he gushed. "Even the way the doors go up. It's a unique car. Before you even get in, it looks like it's going to do a million miles an hour." There was even a movie reference to be had, with the rapper remarking the SLS reminded him of the DeLorean from "Back to the Future."

Rolls-Royce Ghost

Price: $245,000

0-60 mph: 4.8 seconds

Top Speed: 155 mph

Prize Awarded: "Most O.G. Car"

"It's the ghost of cars: You can see it but you can't obtain it yet," Fab joked when he set his eyes on this luxurious four-door chauffer-intended sedan, which counts among its features a video screen and retractable tray tables for the back seats. "I like that it still has the class of the Phantom but it has a twin-turbo V12." The rapper was so taken with the auto that he was prepared to make a deal on the spot: "I'm trying to give them a mixtape or something -- maybe they'll give me a discount," he joked.

Bentley Supersport Convertible

Price: $280,000

0-60 mph: 3.9 seconds

Top Speed: 202 mph

Prize Awarded: "Most Playboy Car"

Like many in the field of hip-hop, Fabolous has a Bentley in his home garage. And in any other circumstance, his GT would be the king of the hill -- but not when you're standing next to the upcoming Supersport Convertible. "This is smashing my GT," he laughed. "You could park this on top of my GT if you want." As would be expected from a label like Bentley, its luxurious, sporty designs make it a must-have for auto enthusiasts with deep pockets. "I love that they put a lot of class in their vehicles," Fabolous remarked.

Lamborghini Murcielago

Price: $400,000

0-60 mph: 3.7 seconds

Top Speed: 220 mph

Prize Awarded: "Fastest Car"

When you're thinking of the speediest car on the market, there's usually one brand name that springs to mind: Lamborghini. And at this year's auto show, the firm trotted out their newest offering, the Murcielago. With its sleek exterior, monster engine and prominent scissor doors, the car quickly caught the eye of Fab and his love of the vehicle was easily cemented when he sat inside. "We're not worthy!" he joked. "Fits like a glove -- I don't think I'm going to get out." The high-performance model would easily turn heads on the highway, but Fabolous had one other thing in mind. "[I love] just the way the chicks are going to look at me after I pull up in this."

Infiniti Essence Concept

Price: N/A

0-60 mph: Unknown

Top Speed: Unknown

Prize Awarded: "Most Futuristic Car"

Auto shows are more than a place to debut next year's models -- they often serve as a launching pad for experimental designs that will someday find their way into your driveway. Such is the case for the Essence, a concept car from Infiniti that easily became one of the show's most memorable set of wheels. The hybrid sports car features no less than seven cameras to provide the driver with a complete 360-degree view, and the 592-horsepower engine ensures that it'll easily keep up with its gas-burning brethren. "This makes Knight Rider look like a '62 Chevy," laughed Fab, who also found much to like in its green-friendly nature. "What's better than that? That's the best of both worlds right there," he said. "This is a spaceship with wheels on it."
