The [artist id="30064"]Black Eyed Peas[/artist] had a heck of a haul during the 52nd annual Grammy Awards, as the collective nabbed wins for their album (The E.N.D.), their record-breaking single ("I Gotta Feeling") and the video for "Boom Boom Pow."
"It's gratifying," Will.I.Am told MTV News. "Having broken records that you never thought you would break, like 27 weeks at #1 [for 'I Gotta Feeling'], that's like six months. Selling out crazy stadiums with no record stores, and this being the biggest year in your career? It's crazy. 'Cause last album, we sold 12 million records, and going into this record, we were kinda scared about how it would perform, because there's no stores. But we outperformed our last album, and we're still in the middle of it."
The E.N.D. was the Black Eyed Peas' first album since 2003's Elephunk. That project featured an array of hits, including "Let's Get It Started," and kick-started Fergie's solo career. After a break, however, they reunited when Will.I.Am was inspired by a new sound for their then-forthcoming project. The producer took in some nightlife during his time on the set of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and came away with an appreciation for the world of electronica.
"He would always go to those clubs and get influenced by electronic music," BEP member Taboo told MTV News last year. "It's a dance album. It's for people around the world."
The Peas will celebrate their wins — for Best Pop Album, Best Pop Vocal by a Duo or Group and Best Short-Form Video — before they prep for the launch of their world tour, which begins next week in Atlanta.
Ludacris is scheduled to join Will.I.Am and company for a tour that the BEP front man promised would be eye-opening. "Bigger production, things flying and the stage transforming," Will promised.
The 2010 Grammy Awards may be over, but MTV News will have much, much more from the show, including reports on your favorite nominees, party photos, behind-the-scenes video and much more from the big show!
