Chris Jericho, Hurricane Helms Arrested In Kentucky

WWE wrestlers were booked early Wednesday morning on public-intoxication charges.

Professional wrestlers Chris Jericho and Gregory "Hurricane" Helms were arrested in Kentucky early Wednesday morning on charges of public intoxication after the two were reportedly brawling in a taxi.

TMZ reported that police were called to the Shell station because Jericho and Helms had been fighting in a cab, and quoted police as saying both were "extremely intoxicated." TMZ also reported that Helms allegedly struck three people who were also in the cab, including Jericho, a man named Gary Kelley and a female passenger named Ashley Storer. According to police, he was not arrested for the alleged attacks because the victims have not pressed charges, a requirement for arrest in Kentucky if officers do not actually witness the attack.

Both Jericho and Helms wrestle for World Wrestling Entertainment and were in the greater Cincinnati area for a taping of "SmackDown" on Tuesday night at the U.S. Bank Arena. A phone call to the WWE seeking comment on their arrests was not returned at press time.

Jericho is one of the WWE's most popular athletes -- a five-time world champion -- and has won the Intercontinental Championship a record nine times. On Wednesday, he was named 2009 Wrestler of the Year by the Wrestling Observer newsletter, the second-consecutive year he has taken home the honor. Helms -- who has wrestled under both his real name and the moniker "The Hurricane" -- has also held several belts, including the WWE's European and Cruiserweight championships, and the World Tag Team Championship.

On Tuesday, Jericho's metal band, Fozzy, released their fourth album, Chasing the Grail. In an interview with MTV News, Jericho described the album as "surprisingly mature."
