Rihanna Discusses Her 'Crazy' Video For 'Hard'

'We have tanks, we have troops, we've got helicopters, we've got explosions,' she promises from the clip's set.

As promised, [article id="1628475"]Rihanna's video for "Hard"[/article] is the very definition of [article id="1627582"]"couture military."[/article] Rihanna shot the video for the clip over two days in Southern California, wearing several sexy, provocative and military-influenced outfits.

Directed by Melina Matsoukas -- who has worked with everyone from Ne-Yo and Beyoncé to Jennifer Lopez and Snoop Dogg -- the video shows a very sexy and tough [artist id="1940303"]Rihanna[/artist] running around the desert, hanging out on tanks and running her own band of guerrilla fighters. It also features Young Jeezy, who raps on the track.

MTV News was on hand for the shoot, which had Rihanna flanked by sexy men and explosions. "Everything is surrounded around the idea of something military," Rihanna said. "We have tanks, we have troops, we've got helicopters, we've got explosions. We've got lots of cute outfits, lots of bullets. It's crazy."

The video is the third to be released from [article id="1626934"]Rihanna's Rated R[/article] and is a follow-up to her equally brave [article id="1625590"]clip for "Wait Your Turn"[/article] and an eerie [article id="1626269"]video for "Russian Roulette."[/article] The song, Rihanna explained, was meant to add that much needed "swagger" to her album.

"Funny enough, when I first heard the song, we were in Paris -- they flew out there to play me some songs they had done for me, some ideas. And before they played 'Hard,' they were like, 'We're gonna play you the ghetto one first, and you have to do it, you have to do it,' " Rihanna said on set. "They thought I wouldn't like it, and when I heard it, I just loved it. It had such an attitude and a swagger ... super cocky and just a fun song. We just thought it was the perfect song for Jeezy [to do a verse on]. It was made for him to collaborate on it. And I think he did an amazing job."
