Pitbull Awarded Key To Miami For 'Sharing Positive Message'

The rapper hopes fans recognize him for charity work as much as his mean right hook.

When [article id="1612255"]Pitbull punched a disruptive fan[/article] during a performance in Colorado back in May, the video clip showcasing the rapper's right hook went viral. But the [artist id="1678002"]Miami rapper[/artist] regrets that the incident has overshadowed the more positive contributions he's pursued during his career.

"I'm involved in charities and in the community; I got foundations," Pit told MTV News. "I'm always giving away turkeys, presents, whatever it may be. We just gave away money for Radio Lollipop in Miami. And no one cares about it. I knock some guy out, everyone wants to know about it. That's just the way it works. It was kind of fortunate, but unfortunate to figure it out that way."

It's not always that way, though. The rapper was finally recognized for his community efforts when he was awarded the key to his hometown on Wednesday in a ceremony officiated by Miami Commissioner Thomas Regalado, according to The Associated Press.

"Pitbull not only lives in Miami, but he's been traveling the country and the world sharing a positive message of Miami," Regalado said during the festivities. "So, we should honor not only the dignitaries that visit, but those individuals who make a positive impact on the city."

The honor is only fitting for the rapper who calls himself Mr. 305. Wearing a three-piece suit, Pit told the crowd that the city was instrumental in building his character and taught him lessons about life.

"I can't help but keep staring at it, because it's something I've worked so hard for," Pitbull said, while holding the gold key. "I'm very passionate about Miami."

Pitbull is currently promoting his next album, Rebulution, his major-label debut set for release September 1 on Polo Grounds Music through J Records/RCA Music Group. The lead single, "Hotel Room Service," is currently #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, making it the rapper's second consecutive top 10 hit following [article id="1618955"]"I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)."[/article]
