A five-track non-commercial EP of unreleased material from
Spiritualized entitled Supplementary Dosage, featuring live
versions of "Cop Shoot Cop," "Shine a Light" and "Electric Mainline," as well as
an instrumental version of "Cool Waves" and a cover of the theme form the X
Files TV show, has just been released. Look for copies at your favorite local
re-sale record store soon. They'll be easy to find, just look for the "Promo Only.
Not For Sale." stamp on the back... Elton John's tribute to Diana
Spencer, Princess of Wales, "Candle in the Wind '97," has been certified by the
Guinness Book of World Records as the world's all-time biggest selling single.
The single achieved the feat by shipping 31.8 million copies, overtaking Bing
Crosby's 1942 holiday classic "White Christmas," which recorded 30 million in
estimated sales...
The
reunited/relapsed Jane's Addiction will host a "dress rehearsal" for
their upcoming tour this Thursday (Oct. 23) at L.A.'s Olympic Auditorium. The
show, which will preview the band's elaborate Polynesian-themed stage and
light rig, will be opened by Fishbone... Boston rockers Aerosmith have settled a lawsuit brought by ex-
manager Tim Collins. The only comment from the group was a terse statement,
which read, "All matters between Tim Collins and Aerosmith have been
resolved." According to the Boston Globe, the undisclosed settlement
with Collins, fired last summer prior to the release of the band's Nine
Lives album after 14 years with the band, could be worth "millions of dollars"
over the next 15 years...
The Smashing Pumpkins unveiled a pair of
new songs during their appearance at the Bridge School Benefit shows last
weekend. "To Shiela" and "Never Apart" are two recent compositions that the
band's publicist, Gayle Fine, said "could likely" end up on their still-untitled
album-in-progress... Former Sex Pistols singer John Lydon, a.k.a. Johnny Rotten,
filmed an episode of the syndicated TV jurisprudence show Judge Judy
on Tuesday (Oct. 21). At issue is a $5,000 suit filed by Lydon's ex-drummer,
Robert Williams, citing breach of contract and civil battery. The show
will air during November sweeps. Lydon's publicist, Eric Gardner, said the
singer was "thrilled" at the chance to battle Williams on camera. "'I love this
country' was his exact response," according to Gardner...
Rapper Warren
G. has filed a trademark infringement suit against country superstar
Garth Brooks over the use of a lower-case letter "g" as a merchandising
symbol, according to an Associated Press report. Brooks' lawyer said his
client's circle-enclosed "g," featured prominently on-stage during a recent
concert in Central Park, is clearly discernible from the rapper's stenciled "g" with
the words "funk music" superimposed...
Former Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh will play host at an
unusual event called "Philharmonia: A Family Musical Gathering and Sing-
Along," on Dec. 7. The event, at San Francisco's Maritime Hall, is a benefit for
the Unbroken Chain Foundation, and will be hosted by Lesh and is scheduled
to feature special guests Edie Brickell, David Grisman,
Bruce Hornsby, Graham Nash and Bob Weir singing,
along with the audience, a selection of Dead tunes and other favorites...
Finally, Cracker are set to enter a New York studio this week to begin
recording their fourth album with producer Don Smith (Keith Richards).
The tentative title of the album, not yet scheduled for release, is Gentleman's
Blues. Songs scheduled for inclusion include "Lullabye" (also on the
soundtrack to the distributor-less indie film River Red, in which singer
David Lowery has a small part), the title track and "World Is Mine."
