With a barely dressed Jessica Alba, a mysteriously sexy Clive Owen, and enough violence to make Jason Voorhees wince, "Sin City" easily slaughtered the competition at the box office.

The film adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novels kept audiences riveted this weekend, bowing at #1 with more than $28.1 million, according to early estimates.

The film follows three of Miller's most popular storylines, beginning with "The Hard Goodbye," which features Mickey Rourke as Marv, a hard-to-kill ex-con obsessed with avenging the death of Goldie (Jaime King), a prostitute who was killed while in bed with him. Then there's "That Yellow Bastard," starring Bruce Willis as Hartigan, a cop with a bum ticker who serves time in jail after trying to kill a rapist (Nick Stahl) who is about to take an 11-year-old girl as his next victim. When Hartigan gets out of jail, he finds the girl -- who has by now grown into an über-hottie played by Jessica Alba -- and goes after the rapist who has turned into a yellow-skinned monster. The third story, "The Big Fat Kill," features Rosario Dawson as the leader of a group of hookers and Clive Owen as her protector.

If you weren't in the mood for unrelenting violence this weekend, the infinitely lighter "Beauty Shop" might have been a better choice of new releases. The film stars Queen Latifah as Gina, a stylist who buys a rundown salon and acquires a heavily-opinionated staff and clientele. "Beauty Shop" -- which also features Alicia Silverstone, Mena Suvari and Djimon Hounsou -- debuted at #2 with $13.5 million.

"Guess Who," which bowed at #1 last weekend, was pushed down to the #3 spot with $13 million in ticket sales. The film, an updated version of the 1967 film "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," features Bernie Mac as a father who is upset to find out that his daughter (Zoë Saldana) is involved in a serious relationship with a white man (Ashton Kutcher).

"Robots" kept an iron grip on the #4 spot for the second week in a row. The animated film about a genius robot (Ewan McGregor) with big plans to create other robots that can make the world a better place, pulled in $10 million in its fourth week in theaters.

After just two weeks in theaters, "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous" fell three spots on the box-office top 10, coming it at #5 with over $8.3 million. The comedy reunites viewers with Gracie Hart, an FBI agent who has been living the celebrity lifestyle after rescuing the Miss United States Pageant. In "Miss Congeniality 2," Hart is forced back into the life of an agent when two of her pageant friends are kidnapped.

Though it fell one spot from #5 to #6 this week, Vin Diesel's comedy, "The Pacifier," has successfully held on to a spot on the box-office top 10 for five weeks. This time around, the flick pulled in more than $6 million.

Rounding out the top 10 are "The Ring Two," taking a massive tumble from #3 to #7 with $5.8 million; "The Upside of Anger," making its debut appearance in the top 10 at #8 with more than $4.1 million; "Hitch," dropping from #6 to #9 with $3 million; and "Ice Princess," falling from #8 to #10 with more than $2.5 million.

Overall, ticket sales were down from the corresponding weekend last year.

Next week, look for "Fever Pitch" to debut on the box-office top 10.
