Maroon 5 Turn To Kanye West For 'This Love' Remix; Record Track For Spidey
When Maroon 5 decided it was time to expand their already substantial fanbase, they looked to the West.
The band spent some time with superproducer du jour Kanye West in New York's Hit Factory studios on April 30 to create a hip-hop remix of their smash single, "This Love." The second single off Maroon 5's debut, Songs About Jane, which had already fallen on receptive ears in the pop and rock audiences, will be aimed at a more street-savvy crowd when the remix is serviced to urban radio outlets at the end of the month.
While West was putting the finishing touches on the remix, Maroon 5 were in the studio Tuesday recording the song "Woman," for inclusion on the soundtrack to "Spider-Man 2." Alongside M5's unreleased cut, the soundtrack, due June 22, boasts contributions from Jet, Hoobastank and Yellowcard (see [article id="1486843"]"Hoobastank, Jet, Yellowcard Spin Songs For 'Spider-Man 2' Soundtrack"[/article]).
Maroon 5 are expected to release their third single, "She Will Be Loved," on June 8. A video for the song is also projected, though the band is still perusing treatments by a host of directors. Regardless of the clip, singer Adam Levine sees big things for the mellow, piano-driven ballad.
"When I wrote the lyrics to the song -- after [guitarist] James [Valentine] and I jammed on what eventually turned into the song -- I said to myself, 'Wow, that's a big deal,' " he said. "That's going to be a huge song. If I'm not completely insane or delusional, that's going to be the biggest song that I ever wrote in my life."
Maroon 5 are making the radio-festival rounds until the end of the month, when they'll take off for Europe to open a handful of shows for Lenny Kravitz. They'll return to the States in mid-June for the Bonnaroo Festival in Manchester, Tennessee. Around that time, a limited-edition eight-song EP should be available. The track list is still being discussed, but it should contain B-sides, live cuts and at least one cover, presumably one of the many that pepper their live shows, including AC/DC's "Highway to Hell," Nine Inch Nails' "Closer" and Prince's "Darling Nikki."
The band joins John Mayer on tour July 2.
