Great White To Perform At Tribute For Late Guitarist Ty Longley

One-song set will be band's last gig for a while, manager says.

Several benefit concerts are being organized to pay tribute to Great White guitarist Ty Longley, who died in the Warwick, Rhode Island, club fire that killed 99 people last month.

Great White will perform one song at an April 29 benefit at the Key Club in West Hollywood for the Ty Longley Memorial Fund. The fund, established by Longley's parents, will provide financial assistance to the late guitarist's unborn child, victim relief funds and students seeking art scholarships.

Other bands on the lineup include '80s hair metal band XYZ and 5 Cent Shine, which Longley was in before he joined Great White. Other national acts will be announced, according to Great White's manager, who added that the surviving bandmembers have no other plans to play together in the near future.

However, members of Great White will probably be in the audience at an April 17 tribute for Longley at the Hard Rock Cafe in Beverly Hills. The show is being organized by Happenin' Harry and will feature Happenin' Harry & the Haptones and Yuko Tamura of the Jack Russell Band.

A third concert will take place at a London club on April 19 with the Tygers of Pan Tang, Oliver/Dawson Saxon and the tribute bands Dirty DC (covers AC/DC), Stone Free (covers Jimi Hendrix), Ironically Maiden (covers Iron Maiden), Queen Rocks (covers Queen) and Fake No More (covers Faith No More). Proceeds will go to the Ty Longley Memorial Fund and the Rhode Island Relief Fund.

Finally, a number of artists who had collaborated with Longley for a solo album have donated their tracks with the guitarist to the upcoming Ty Longley benefit record Ty Longley: Regular Guy, which will be released in May on Knight Records and will also benefit the memorial fund. The LP will include two live songs by Great White, an acoustic track by Great White singer Jack Russell and songs by 5 Cent Shine, Daxx, Christi and Maestro Alex Gregory. A full Great White tribute album is also in the works.
