Queen Latifah Signs On For NBA Cinderella Story

In 'Just Wright' she'll aid an injured basketball player who ends up falling for her.

She's played a prison matron, an escaped convict and a lesbian bank robber, and now Queen Latifah is set to play Cinderella ... sort of.

Latifah has signed on to star in "Just Wright," a modern-day Cinderella story set in the world of professional basketball. Queen Latifah will play physical therapist Janice Wright, who moves in with a basketball player to help him recover from a career-threatening injury. The ballplayer, of course, eventually falls for his therapist.

As with "Bringing Down the House," currently #1 at the box office (see [article id="1470588"]" 'House' Rules -- Queen Latifah Comedy #1 Again"[/article]), Latifah will serve as a producer on "Just Wright." She also hopes to produce and possibly direct a movie called "The Cookout" for Lions Gate Films.

Queen Latifah is up for a best supporting actress Oscar on Sunday (see [article id="1470629"]"Academy Awards To Air, But TV Execs Proceed Cautiously As War Looms"[/article]) for her performance in the acclaimed musical "Chicago," which also earned her a Golden Globe nomination (see [article id="1459593"]" 'Chicago' Knocks 'Em Dead, Wins Three Golden Globes"[/article]).

The onetime "Living Single" star is bringing her acting prowess back to the small screen as well. In the forthcoming CBS drama "Mali Anderson," Latifah will star as an ex-cop she describes as "Nancy Drew meets 'Shaft.' "

She hasn't left music behind, though. Her album First Love is due next month (see [article id="1459662"]"Queen Latifah Plans New Movie, TV Show, Album"[/article]).
