Colin Farrell Recruits Enough Moviegoers To Top Box Office
Movie audiences must've been craving something fresh, since all of the weekend's new releases -- "The Recruit," "Final Destination 2" and "Biker Boyz" -- were the biggest draws at the box office.
"The Recruit," starring Colin Farrell and Al Pacino, debuted at #1 with $16.5 million ([article id="1459664"]click for photos from the movie[/article]), trailed closely by the horror sequel "Final Destination 2," ([article id="1459718"]click for photos from the movie[/article]) which made $16.2 million. The "Fast and the Furious"-like motorcycle movie "Biker Boyz," featuring Laurence Fishburne and Kid Rock, landed at #3 with $10.1 million ([article id="1459711"]click for photos from the movie[/article]), according to studio estimates.
"Darkness Falls," last weekend's #1 film (see [article id="1459706"]"Tooth Fairy Knocks Teeth Out Of 'Kangaroo Jack'"[/article]), fell to #5 with $7.5 million. The horror thriller about a town haunted by a vengeful tooth fairy has made $22.2 million in its two weeks of release. "Kangaroo Jack" hopped back over "Darkness Falls," landing at #4 with $9 million. The kid flick's three-week total stands at $45.8 million.
The rest of the weekend's top 10 includes the Golden Globe-winning musical "Chicago" (see [article id="1459593"]"'Chicago' Knocks 'Em Dead, Wins Three Golden Globes"[/article]) at #6 with $7.1 million ($50.7 million, six weeks); "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" at #7 with $5 million ($315.9 million, seven weeks); "Just Married" at #8 with $4.9 million ($49.8 million, four weeks); "Catch Me If You Can" at #9 with $4.8 million ($151.9 million, six weeks); and Jack Nicholson's "About Schmidt" at #10 with #4.7 million ($44.3 million, eight weeks).
