Strokes Line Up GN'R, GBV Members For 'Someday' Video
Leave it to sonic archeologists the Strokes to bring together two of rock's
greatest G's — hard rock's GN'R and indie rock's GBV.
Current and former members of both bands appear in the video for the New
York quintet's third single, "Someday," from their debut, Is This It,
according to their publicist. Former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, bassist
Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum appear in a bar scene, specifics of
which remain undisclosed.
Another scene takes place on a stage mimicking that of the game show "Family
Feud," as was predicted by Strokes singer Julian Casablancas last month (see
[article id="1455337"]"Strokes Say No To Big-Name Producers,
Directors"[/article]) and recently confirmed by a source close to the band.
The Strokes are on one side of the set, which will look all too familiar to
anyone who grew up during the program's early '80s peak. They'll face off
against Guided by Voices, one of the Strokes' favorite bands. (The two
groups shared a stage of a different sort late last year at Harlem's
legendary Apollo Theatre.) The winner of this battle of the bands will be
determined, as is customary on the show, by what the "survey says!"
The video was shot a few weeks ago in Los Angeles by director Roman Coppola,
who also lensed clips for the band's two previous singles, "Last Nite" and
"Hard to Explain." A release date for the video has not been set yet.
The Strokes will play a handful of dates with Weezer, Dashboard Confessional
and Sparta, beginning July 17 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, before teaming up
with the White Stripes for a trio of shows in New York and Detroit. Then
it's off to the United Kingdom for three festivals in late August.
