Third Eye Blind are making headway on their third album and eyeing a summer release, despite being interrupted in the studio by a few high-profile guests.

In-your-face party starter Andrew W.K. showed up and added backing vocals to the song "F--ked up Kid," while Kimya Dawson of lo-fi indie band the Moldy Peaches donated her voice to "Self Righteous."

The most famous visitor to stop by the San Francisco studio, however, did not collaborate. He does own the place, though.

While at Skywalker Sound, Third Eye Blind presented "Star Wars" director George Lucas with a plaque commemorating the 6 million units sold of their 1997 self-titled debut, which was recorded at the studio, according to an Elektra Records spokesperson.

Singer Stephan Jenkins and cohorts are recording their new album, Crystal Baller, at Skywalker and their own new studio, Mourningwood.

"We have sought a sound that is raw, earthy and beautiful, and building our own studio has allowed us to find it," Jenkins, who is co-producing with bassist Arion Salazar and engineer Jason Carmer, said in a statement. "It's funny, but after a year of soul searching, we have a really emotional record, and we took so much pleasure in making it that I wish we could make a double album."

Jenkins described the sound of Crystal Baller, the follow-up to 1999's Blue, as influenced by Third Eye Blind's "continuing fascination with Lou Reed and club rhythms."
