Fabolous Sad Then Glad About Usher Tour Delay, Begins Work On New LP

Rapper may tour with Nelly, DMX.

Although Fabolous said he's recently been contacted by reps for Nelly and DMX for a potential supertour, he's still thinking of what could've been if he would have gone out on the road as planned with fellow "Young'n" Usher.

"Wow, I was like 'Dag, man,' " he said of heading out with the singer. "My first tour. I'm going out there with Usher, he's got a big record now, so this should be a big tour. Girls is probably gonna come to that tour just to hear 'U Got It Bad.' Just to hear him sing that one song, half of the concert is there. So, I just was like, 'Wow, I'mma have to get myself totally ready for this.' "

Unfortunately, when Usher dislocated his shoulder and had to have surgery two weeks ago (see [article id="1450944"]"Usher Tour On Hold After Singer Dislocates Shoulder"[/article]), the outing was put on hold, much to Fab's chagrin — at first.

"I was like, 'Damn, man,' " he said. "They were like, 'Yo, we're gonna push it back.' " But it was cool though, 'cause some other people had hollered at me for some tour thing [with Nelly and DMX], but I wouldn't have been able to do it because I was gonna be on the Usher tour. I wouldn't have got off 'til February. And the other tour is starting like in the end of January and they ain't want a clashing issue like, 'Well, you just came off tour. You can't go back to them same exact cities that you just [left from].' [But now that Usher's tour has been delayed] it turned out to work."

Fab's debut, Ghetto Fabolous, may have just eclipsed the gold mark, but he isn't taking time out to revel in his success. He's preparing to thwart the sophomore jinx by heading into the studio for his new album.

"Yeah, actually I was picking a couple of beats," he said. "I do my albums spaced apart. I do three, four songs. Then do another three, four songs. Just to get different feels at different times. So, that's how I deal with this record and it got me kinda rapping in different styles. I wanted to work with UGK. I wanna work with Dr. Dre on some production, Jermaine Dupri on some production. I just wanna go every way."

One direction he's leaning towards is doing a remake of Eurythmics' 1983 #1 hit "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" as a title track for his LP.

"I was thinking about [naming the album] Street Dreams," he said. "I wanted to do the record over kinda like Nas did, but I wanna use like the actual beat from the real one. And just get them to sample it and do something with it.

"The position I'm in, somebody was talking to me," he further explained. "He was like 'Yo man, people on the streets dream to be where you at. That's kinda how people be hating on you a little bit because they wanna be where you at. Even the hustlers, even people that's doing wrong wish they could stop doing that so they can chill. Right now you're the street dream.' I'm just waiting to bring the idea to [DJ] Clue."

As for his current album, he said he's not done milking it of potential hits. He wants to release either "Trade It All," featuring Jagged Edge, or a remix of "Keepin' It Gangsta."
