Sum41 To Launch Quickie U.S. Tour

Pop punks begin their first headlining jaunt October 4 in St. Petersburg, Florida.

You do the math: Four pop punks plus more than 780,000 albums sold, multiplied by successful stints on this summer's Vans Warped Tour and as openers for Blink-182 equals the first-ever headlining tour for Sum41.

The rambunctious Canadians will embark on their maiden voyage atop the marquee beginning October 4 in St. Petersburg, Florida, according to an Island Def Jam publicist. Keeping in tune with most of their songs, the group's jaunt is short and sweet, wrapping up just three weeks later in Pontiac, Michigan. Come November, Sum41 will play a series of European dates.

Sum41, who scored a 2001 Video Music Awards nomination in the Best New Artist category, continue to pound the pavement in support of their full-length debut, All Killer No Filler, the follow-up to last year's 11-track EP Half Hour of Power. While first single "Fat Lip" continues to bully other songs standing in its way to the top of the radio charts, "In Too Deep" was recently shipped to radio, the publicist said. A video for the song was filmed in June (see [article id="1444697"]"Sum41 Ask Fans To Help Them Dive Into Second Video"[/article]).

Southern California skate rats Unwritten Law will join Sum41 on all the dates of the tour, while the second opening slot will be shared by Vancouver punks Gob (October 6-13) and newcomers Hoobastank (October 14-27), whose self-titled major-label debut is slated for a November release, according to the publicist.
