George Harrison Recovering From Cancer Surgery

Former Beatle had growth removed from one of his lungs.

George Harrison is making an "excellent recovery" after undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous growth from one of his lungs, the former Beatle's lawyers said in a statement, according to the Associated Press.

"The operation was successful, and George has made an excellent recovery. He is in the best of spirits and on top form — the most relaxed and free since the attack on him in 1999," the statement said, referring to the incident in which a 33-year-old man from Liverpool broke into Harrison's home in Henley-on-Thames and stabbed him four times in the chest.

"Although all things must pass away," the statement continued, referencing Harrison's 1970 opus, All Things Must Pass, "George has no plans right now." He is still "living in the material world" (a nod to his 1973 album by that name) and "wishes everyone all the very best," it said.

The attorneys reportedly did not specify when the surgery took place. Doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, performed the operation on the 58-year-old singer/guitarist, who is now recuperating in his home in Tuscany, Italy, with his wife.
