Jurassic 5 Spreading 'Influence' On College Campuses

Hip-hop ensemble launching short tour April 15 in Las Vegas.

With a new single and video out, Jurassic 5 will take to the road for a brief college tour that kicks off April 15 in Las Vegas.

The group's playful new single, "The Influence," from last year's Quality Control, is a nod to old-school hip-hop and a thank-you to fans, with a video directed by Marcos Siega, who's helmed several Blink-182 clips.

Jurassic 5 — which consists of rappers Akil, Chali 2na, Marc 7 and Zaakir and turntablists Cut Chemist and DJ Nu-Mark — had to cut short their participation in the Vans Warped Tour last year after a bus accident left Chali 2na with a fractured skull.

Hardcore J5 fans will note that the tour will keep Cut Chemist from working on a follow-up to his Brainfreeze project with DJ Shadow. A rep for Interscope records said the two DJs have been putting together the sequel to the innovative original Brainfreeze project that found underground success in 1999.

Before they wrap up the tour May 5 at Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts, Jurassic five will hit several off-campus sites as well, including a two-night stand at the Bowery Ballroom in New York.
