Paul Simon, Elton John Join Tribute To Brian Wilson

Aimee Mann, Michael Penn, Heart, Matthew Sweet also set for all-star salute to Beach Boys mastermind.

Paul Simon, Elton John, Heart, Matthew Sweet and husband-wife singer/songwriters Aimee Mann and Michael Penn are the first artists to commit to the lineup for the All-Star Tribute to Brian Wilson, set for March 29 at New York's Radio City Music Hall.

The concert will be broadcast on TNT this summer, according to a press release.

The show, which will feature more artists yet to be announced, will present music from all points of Wilson's career — songs from the early Beach Boys era to tunes from his more recent records, such 1988's Brian Wilson and 1998's Imagination. Pet Sounds, the Beach Boys' 1966 orchestral pop song-cycle generally regarded as Wilson's masterpiece, will be performed from start to finish

Veteran producer Phil Ramone will be the music producer for the event. George Martin — whose work on the Beatles' records was often influenced by Wilson's productions for the Beach Boys — and actor Dennis Hopper will present segments examining aspects of Wilson's career and music.

An All-Star Tribute to Brian Wilson will be the fifth multi-artist salute presented as part of the TNT Master Series. Sophisticated pop composer Burt Bacharach was feted in 1998, followed by country patriarch Johnny Cash and reggae messiah Bob Marley in 1999 and folk/jazz doyenne Joni Mitchell in 2000.
