To launch his own record label, Shaggy turned to the singers who helped make his breakthrough hits so catchy.

The dancehall star has signed Rayvon and Ricardo "RikRok" Ducent, who sing the hooks on "Angel" (RealAudio excerpt) and "It Wasn't Me" (RealAudio excerpt), respectively, as the first artists to his label, Big Yard. Shaggy recently signed a deal with MCA Records for the imprint, which he previously ran as a production company.

"I'm trying to add Shaggy, record mogul, to [my list of titles]," he said last week.

Shaggy will appear as a guest on Rayvon's and RikRok's solo debuts, both of which could turn up as early as June, an MCA publicist said. Both artists are recording their albums in Long Island, New York, with Shaun "Sting Int'l" Pizzonia, who also produced Shaggy's smash, Hotshot (2000). The record has topped the Billboard 200 albums chart for the last four weeks.

In addition to record mogul, Shaggy said he likes the idea of adding "actor" to his resume, though he's yet to find the right role.

"They making me all kinds [of offers] — it's amazing," he said. "Nobody knew me four months ago, then 5 million records — everybody at your door, you lovin' it."
