George Harrison To Chat Online Thursday

Ex-Beatle's new Web site explores his spiritual, ecological interests, discusses re-release of All Things Must Pass.

George Harrison called his 1973 album Living in the Material World. With his new online presence, he may be tempted to call his next studio record Living in the Immaterial World.

Harrison's diving headfirst into Internet culture with his first official Web site, www.allthingsmustpass.com, and his first online chats.

The site, which went up January 23, explores the content of the 30th anniversary edition of All Things Must Pass, the first solo album by a Beatle to hit the top of the charts in the U.S., and it also touches on Harrison's spiritual and ecological interests.

"Web sites for me are still new territory," said Harrison via a press release. "I still don't really know what they are supposed to do. But it was fun thinking of ideas and seeing them put together on the screen. I hope people enjoy it."

Alongside pages featuring a cursory biography of Harrison and the new liner notes from the new edition of All Things Must Pass are such pages as Cyril's Rare Guitars, featuring reproductions of some of his favorite guitars, and the Daily Bread, which, on Tuesday (February 13), featured a verse by Swami Sivanandan entitled "Why Meditate?" Several pages play excerpts of newly released cuts from All Things Must Pass, such as "My Sweet Lord (2000)" and the 1970 demo for "Let It Down."

The visual gestalt of the site, produced by @radicalmedia.com, is redolent of Terry Gilliam's animation for the television programs and films of Monty Python, with whom Harrison has been close. Gnomes like the ones pictured on the cover of All Things Must Pass roam around the site. The site also depicts Harrison's beloved English countryside becoming gradually paved over, developed and hopelessly polluted.

As for Harrison's other foray into online hi-jinx, his very first Web chats will take place Thursday (February 15). The first chat begins at 8 p.m. ET on http://chat.yahoo.com, and the second starts at 9 p.m. ET on MSN Live, located at http://www.msn.com. A direct link to both will be available at http://www.allthingsmustpass.com.
