Jennifer Lopez Tops With Moviegoers, Music Buyers

Singer/actress lands at #1 with 'Wedding Planner,' J.Lo.

As if having the #1 movie weren't enough, Jennifer Lopez is top of the pops as well.

The superstar singer/actress' second album, J.Lo, sold about 272,000 copies in its first week — enough to perch her firmly at #1 on next week's Billboard 200 albums chart, according to industry sources. Official numbers will be released by SoundScan on Wednesday.

Lopez's lightning-bolt debut upsets the Beatles' stranglehold on the top spot, where their The Beatles 1 has spent the past seven weeks.

It appears that Lopez is the first female performer in history to have a #1 album and film at the same time; however, that could not be confirmed at press time.

Lopez's romantic comedy "The Wedding Planner" came out on top at the box office last weekend, reeling in $13.5 million, according to Exhibitor Relations Co. In the film, Lopez plays a nuptials expert who falls for the fiancé (Matthew McConaughey) of one of her clients.

The star has been promoting both projects aggressively, appearing at the film's Los Angeles premiere on Tuesday and turning up at a record store the following night to sign copies of her album.

Lopez executive-produced J.Lo and co-wrote several of its songs, while her boyfriend, Sean "Puffy" Combs, produced three tracks and contributed backing vocals. The effort features the dance number "Love Don't Cost a Thing."

After establishing herself first as an actress, Lopez made her music debut with 1999's multiplatinum On the 6, featuring the hit "If You Had My Love."
