Travis Mines B-Side Sessions For New Single

Travis is currently wowing audiences during its opening slot on Oasis' American tour, and the group plans to head out on its own month-long U.S. trek, beginning on May 6 in Nashville.

While the Glaswegian band continues to spend time in the States working its "The Man Who" album and "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?" single, Travis has not forgotten its fans in the U.K., where "The Man Who" has been out since last May.

In order to help tide fans over until the release of its third album, Travis will issue a new U.K. single, titled "Coming Around," on June 5, and frontman Fran Healy recently told MTV News how the song was mined from some tossed-off b-side sessions.

[article id="1451326"]"['Coming Around'] was recorded in May of last year,"[/article] Healy said, [article id="1451326"]"before we went on our first U.K. tour with 'The Man Who.' We did it in a b-side session, and we just knocked it out in half an hour.[/article]

[article id="1451326"]"Just before we got on the bus to leave [for the tour], I got a phone call from... our A&R man at the record company, and he said, 'This is not a B-side, Franny.' And I was like, 'Well, what do you mean?' And he goes, 'This is a single, this is like a number one single." And I went, 'What do you mean, which song?' And he's going, '"Coming Around."'[/article]

[article id="1451326"]"I was like, 'Oh, right,' because we had just recorded it and knocked it out and forgotten about it,"[/article] Healy added. [article id="1451326"]"But that's his job. He's that man that goes, 'Wow, man. That's a tune, that's a tune.' Because we've got so many songs, I suppose it gets [to the point] where you just end up going in and just doing them.[/article]

[article id="1451326"]"But you have to be glad that you've got someone there at the mastering suite going, 'Oh, wait a minute. This isn't a B-side. This

is actually a single.' That's where the song comes from. We're releasing it in the U.K. in June, and it's gonna be on the third record, which we're gonna record in September." [RealAudio][/article]

Travis plans to huddle in a Los Angeles studio with producer Nigel Godrich in the fall to begin work on the band's new album (see [article id="1434939"]"Travis To Tour While Waiting On Godrich"[/article]).
