3 Doors Down Talks "Kryptonite" Video, Outtakes

Escatawpa, Mississippi's 3 Doors Down has quickly emerged as one of the hottest young bands around, as its "Kryptonite" single is currently number one at rock radio, while its major label debut, "The Better Life," has already sold more than 400,000 copies since being released in February.

Though it's the group's breakthrough song, 3 Doors Down has actually had the "Kryptonite" track around for quite some time, as it was one of the songs the group originally recorded for its 1997 demo.

Shooting the geriatric superhero-themed video for "Kryptonite," however, was an altogether new experience for 3 Doors Down, who recently chatted with MTV News about the clip and some of frontman Brad Arnold's "Urban Cowboy"-like outtakes.

[article id="1451182"]"That was a real good experience, working with [director] Dean Karr,"[/article] explained bassist Todd Harrell. [article id="1451182"]"He's a trip."[/article]

[article id="1451182"]"He's cool," [/article]Arnold agreed. "We had a lot of fun.

[article id="1451182"]"We worked, what, two 14-hour days on it?"[/article] Harrell asked his bandmate. [article id="1451182"]"A lot of excitement going on."[/article]

[article id="1451182"]"The first day was a lot of the other scenes,"[/article] Arnold said, [article id="1451182"]"and then the second day, we did the [scene] with all the old superheroes in the bar."[/article]

[article id="1451182"]"It was hard to keep a straight face during that,"[/article] Harrell commented.

[article id="1451182"]"It was really funny,"[/article] Arnold said. [article id="1451182"]"I mean, standing there on the set with all these people dressed up like old superheroes, 80-year-old people, and they were all extremely nice. They're just out there dancing around while we're singing.[/article]

[article id="1451182"]"But it kind of made me more comfortable,"[/article] Arnold continued, [article id="1451182"]"because I was like, 'If that doesn't look stupid, I don't look stupid.' So that was kind of cool."[/article]

"Brad got to ride a bull, and that didn't make the cut," Harrell recalled about the shoot.

"Yeah, there's this mechanical bull in the video," Arnold said, "[it's the] mechanical bull that you see the old guys riding at the end. There were actually a couple of shots of me on the bull."

"They kind of got edited out," Harrell joked.

"At

least I got to ride it," Arnold countered.

"Yeah, he got to ride it awhile," Harrell said.

"It was fun, man," Arnold said.

"He liked to have gotten thrown from it a time or two," Harrell said, needling Arnold.

"Man, I'm from Mississippi!" [RealVideo] Arnold shot back in mock indignation.

3 Doors Down plans to issue "Loser" as the next single from "The Better Life," and is tentatively set to head out on the road for a two-week stint with Creed in mid-August (see [article id="1434832"]"3 Doors Down Get Pushed Around For 'Loser' Single"[/article]).
