Sleater-Kinney Raises "Hands" In May

Olympia, Washington rock grrrl trio Sleater-Kinney has completed work on its fifth album, titled "All Hands On The Bad One," due out on the Kill Rock Stars label in May.

Sleater-Kinney also plans to hit the road in early May to help support the new LP, the follow-up to 1999's critically acclaimed "The Hot Rock." The dates for the band's spring outing are still being worked out, although a May 6 gig at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland has already been confirmed.

Before heading out on tour, Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss will play on the upcoming record from Australian New Wavers the Go-Betweens, who plan to begin cutting a new LP, their first since 1988's "Streets Of Your Town," in February.

In related news, Sleater-Kinney is also one of the first acts to sign on for Ladyfest 2000, a six-day music festival being held in Olympia from August 1-6. An indie spin on the massively popular (and recently retired) Lilith Fair, Ladyfest 2000 is an event produced

by women and aimed at showcasing female bands, writers, and spoken word artists.

The Ladyfest 2000 is still relatively early in the planning stages, and organizers are currently sorting out a lineup, schedules, and ticket sales for the music and arts fair.

Sleater-Kinney's "All Hands On The Bad One" is due in stores on May 2.
