April 4 [15:45 EST] -- Drug charges filed against Screaming Trees singer Mark Lanegan were dismissed during a hearing in San Francisco on Thursday.

The district attorney told MTV News that misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance, which was identified as heroin by narcotics detectives, were dropped because the amount Lanegan had in his possession at the March 27 bust was not enough for a jury trial.

Associated charges of possessing drug paraphernalia (a pipe and syringe) were also simultaneously dismissed.
