December 17 [16:00 EDT] -- The Presidents of the United States of America have decided to call it quits after frontman Chris Bellew quit the band to devote more time to his family and his own musical interests.

The Seattle band's career, which spawned hits like "Lump," "Peaches," and "Kitty," was drawn to a close with a statement from Columbia Records that explained that Bellew wants, "to spend more time being a father and husband and to pursue other musical interests.

In the statement, drummer Jason Finn explains that Bellew's departure signaled the end of the group, noting, "We broke up for the same reason Soundgarden did... Chris left the band.

The band won't be riding off into the sunset without a proper farewell. The Presidents plan to play one last concert in their hometown of Seattle in February of next year. Meanwhile, Columbia will squeeze one more album out of the band as the label plans to release a collection of rarities and previously unreleased
